The Legacy of Stan Lee – The Real Superhero

If one has to list top 10 saddest moments in Avengers: Endgame, Stan Lee’s cameo will definitely make it to the list. After all, it was the last time he appeared in a Marvel film, in random cameos that became a running gag among the fans. Such is the admiration and adoration Stan Lee enjoyed. And why would he not – he gave us  a whole universe of our own, creating a family of people all over the world crying, laughing & smiling together!

What stands apart for Lee is his talent to give his creations complex, naturalistic personalities as opposed to characters back in the day which were perfect in every way. His superheroes weren’t just superheroes; they were humans – they had their weaknesses, misgivings and setbacks, which made us connect to each and every character. From Tony Stark’s alcoholism, Banner’s anger issues, Thor & Loki’s family feuds – each superhero was a flawed human. With iconic female characters like Captain Marvel, Black Widow & Scarlet Witch to introducing diversity with Black Panther & Falcon, he gave everyone a superhero to look up to. He didn’t only create popular superheroes, but he also created some exemplary antagonists you can relate to & will hesitate before hating. Loki, Magneto, Kingpin – all his villains were well-drawn and had an independent story-line.

That being said, Lee didn’t single-handedly create these characters. He often collaborated with Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby to breath life and personality in these characters. Even then, most of his creations didn’t realize their full potential immediately. Lee established grounds for these characters, it was the later writers/creators who elevated them with their imagination. He laid the foundation stones, on which countless other story-tellers built their stories.

Superhero universe crossovers weren’t a thing Stan Lee invented, but he was the one who proved the creative potential of shared universes. A story wasn’t restricted to just one superhero or just one comic – it was something that could go on for years and involve every possible scenario one could think of. The revolution he brought into the comics industry extended beyond the characters and story-lines – He changed the way comic books engaged the readership and built a sense of community between fans and creators.

Lee’s true legacy at Marvel Comics isn’t any one character or franchise, but it is the sense of belonging and acceptance he gave to the comic fans and inspiration and insights he has provided to generations of creators. So, the best way to pay tribute to him is by pushing your creative boundaries and keep on creating.

Excelsior!

The Batman – What We Know About The Upcoming Film

Slated to release in June 2021, the solo Batman film has gotten everyone excited. The first solo film of Batman in the DC Extended Universe, it has the potential to revive the movie franchise of one of the most loved superheroes.

It is no secret that Ben Affleck has bid adieu to the role of the Dark Knight and Robert Pattinson will take up the mantle. While many fans had reacted negatively to Pattinson’s casting, the recently released teasers of his first look as The Caped Crusader has convinced many fans that he is the one. But what all do we know about this film yet? Read on to know.

Is the new Batman film an origin story?

While Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy traces the hero’s, it is not a part of the DCEU. Thus, when a solo Batman film was announced, many speculated that it might be the origin story of the Dark Knight in DCEU . However, the director Matt Reeves has clarified that though the plot would be an original, noir-driven story, it won’t be an origin story.

How old is Pattinson’s Batman?

Robert Pattinson being chosen to play the role logically indicates only one thing – we are going to see a younger version of the Caped Crusader on the screen. And as the film is not going to be an origin story, it means that the it will be set in the period between Bruce Wayne becoming a vigilante and him meeting Superman.

What superpowers does Batman have?

Though The Dark Knight is perhaps one of the most famous and loved superheroes of all times, he doesn’t have any superhuman powers or abilities (unlike his other Justice League friends). He is a human with a genius-level intellect, who trained and mastered various martial arts. Though his vast wealth gives him access to high-tech equipment, there is no denying that he has extraordinary detective skills. This aspect of his personality was somehow overlooked in the portrayal of the Affleck’s Batman. Thus, it would be interesting to see a film that lives up to the name of “World’s Greatest Detective”.

Who are the villains in the new Batman film?

If we were to depend on the current casting news, the film will feature anywhere from two to six villains. Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin and John Tuturro as Carmine Falcone have been confirmed by the Reeves himself. Harvey Dent is also rumoured to join this supervillain squad.

Whether Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke will make an appearance is still unknown. Back in 2016, when Ben Affleck was still attached to this film as the director and star, Manganiello’s Deathstroke was confirmed as the main villain. But now with Affleck no longer associated with this project, there has been no clarification on the status of Deathstroke.

Have any photos been released from the sets?

Director Reeves shared the first look of the Batsuit. In the video, dark and intense music can be heard, followed by Pattinson in the Batsuit, bathed in red light and face hidden by the Batman’s cowl.

Recently, Reeves also shared the first look of the new Batmobile. This version of the iconic vehicle has a more rustic and grounded spin on the car, as compared to the previous films.
